That old chestnut

And by that, I mean dying my hair. Yep, you guessed it, its that time again. The time I have to redye and get rid of any trace that I am in fact a natural (whisper it!) blonde. Shocking I know.

As its that time again, I thought I'd give you guys a run down on what dyes are currently chilling out in various layers on my scalp, since september 2012.

1. Clairol Extreme Nice 'n Easy Flame Red Hair Dye 7RR

This is the first ever hair dye I have used, and was, shall we say, an expierience. First off, if you are, like me, a natural blonde; going red can be problematic. At first, mine came out orange. And when I say orange, I mean orange. Second, I decided it would be a great idea to do my hair on my own, minus a patch test in a fairly unventilated room. Not a good idea. AT ALL.

This hair dye was difficult to rub in, kept matting my hair up. The colour itself came out initially orangey red but then faded to what you can see in the picture, a fairly nice, dark ginger. Pretty close to my dads hair colour actually. But it faded pretty quick. And stained alot of towels and sheets in the process.

2. Schwarzkopf Live XXL Real Red 35

Yep, thats me, the bright red one on the left. So this one came out VERY red. I mean luminous red. quite nice actually. This time I did my hair with my mothers help, and got all of it.

Much easier than the 'nice and easy' stuff and actually came out red. Lasted really well too, but did fade to more of a pink, rather than a gingery copper red. Pink does not suit me. at least not as a hair colour.

3. L'Oreal Feria by Preference P76 Pure Spice Power

Excuse the odd picture. This one was, terrible. dye took ages to wash out and ran for at least a week. The colour itself was great to start with, but faded in about two weeks. Not great. Again, this one went pink upon fading. And I do not suit pink hair.

4. Garnier Olia Permanent Hair Colour 6.60 Intense Red

This is by far the best colour I have used. This one has no ammonia and smelt quite nice, with really nice results. After all that dying my hair was quite dry but after using this, it started to come back to normal a little bit.

Application was a weird experience. As its oil based, the hair gets matted up very easily and that was a bit of a problem. As well as the fact I could shape my hair into a dorsal fin... Yeah, not ideal. Washing out took forever, nearly an hour and a half, my poor grandmother kept having to check I was okay.

The colour itself has lasted pretty well, its now a deep coppery red, which is good, and so far I've had to redye about once a month, my hair grows like wildfire. This is by far the best one.

Till next time,

Happy Scribbling.  xoxo
